I have known the Shumway family for a few years now through church! Mom wanted a beach type shoot but living in land locked Illinois, it was not easy to come up with a great location! I managed to find a small public beach on Lake Mattoon and we went for it! This turned out to be a great location and the kids had so much fun and were so easy to work with!!

For some odd reason, this blog gets neglected very badly! I am sad that it goes on the back burner but I am ready to catch up and stay caught up (I hope)! Here we go:

This little beauty was from a BIG family shoot that I did! She was adorable and super cooperative!

Caleb and Mom and Dad have been coming to me for three years now! Wow, time is flying! Every year I have to try to out do myself with the location! He is a fun guy!

This is the Deep Water Band! They are a group of talented guys who recently went to Nashville to record their first album! I am honored to have had to opportunity to sing with this wonderful group of musicians!

Drake and Laney are so adorable! He recently turned 1 and she turned 9. This is the second session with Drake and my third with big sis! I love watching them grow!

The Haney family was so much fun to work with! The kids were full of energy and very willing to pose! We had a great time together!

Jamie & Jason were just married on May 7th! It was a small intimate ceremony and reception! Everything was beautiful!

Morgan and Luke: Big sis, Morgan had to get in on the action when I did a newborn shoot for 5 day old little brother! Can you tell she really loves him?

MHS Winterguard: These are a talented group and I am not just saying that because the Moody Teen was part of the group!

The Morton Family: We originally planned to do a snowy shoot last December, however, it turned into a blizzard so we postponed it until spring. The little guys were a big help and I even let them take a few shots themselves! Maybe a couple of future photographers!

Ryan & Anna: I have done Ryan's family photos for the past couple of years and this year his Mom wanted me to do a Prom shoot for them! Ryan is a Junior at my alma mater!

Here is the beautiful Sarah! She is one of the models for my Beautiful You campaign designed for women of all ages!

The Smith Family: this crew was so much fun!! The twins kept me on my toes and big brother was my little model!

The T & T Twins: 10 days old and so adorable! I love these two little guys!

Zach & Leslie: My son and his bestie all dressed up for Senior Prom! Wow, the last dance of their High School careers!

I have been a busy little beaver and I like it! I recently got to meet little Jocelyn! This was an especially cool shoot because I photographed her Mommy and Daddy's wedding early last year and now she has made them a family of three. She was not sure about me though! LOL! After a little while she warmed up to me but was very frugal with her smiles.

Squishy Man

I love lil babies! They are cute, innocent and oh so squishy! At 5 days old, they are so super flexible that posing is not an issue unless you are like squishy man aka Luke! When he should have been sleeping, he was not so he had his own agenda and eve rolled over for me once because he was not amused with the pose I put him in but I still love him!! I told him earlier this week, while having a cuddle session, that he will always be squishy man to me (even when he turns 16)! The cutie with him is big sis Morgan! Coming later in the week another lil one and her family!

My Poor Neglected Blog!

This poor old blog is feeling rather neglected and I, for one, do not blame it! You see, I got really busy, which is good for business but bad for the blog. I took a shooting hiatus from December 12th until the first week in February to wrap up 2010. All photos have been delivered and the books are done and waiting for the accountant to work his magic! 2010 was a wonderful year for me and I am excited to see what 2011 holds.

I have done some learning and added some cool things to bag of tricks including: Off Camera Flash, indoor photography and some editing techniques that will blow your socks off! Having said that, here are a few from the end of the year! Enjoy these and I will have new awesomeness for you very soon!

The Latest and Greatest!

I have been so busy on shoots that the blog has taken a big backseat lately so I decided to share some of my favs from my shoots from the month of October since there is no way I could blog each one individually! I will just share one, long post with some really great people featured! Take a deep breath because here we go!

First up is the lovely Andrea! I did one big shoot with her and her best friend Hannah! I had a great time with these besties!

Next up are the Babich kids! They did great individually but would not cooperate together! Oh well, that is the nature of siblings!

Here is the Bromley family! Mom found me on the web and drove from Champaign to do a session one beautiful Saturday morning! Again, one little one was less than cooperative until I stuck him between mom and dad! Too cute!

Mommy and Cameron came up to visit grandma and grandpa all the way from Alabama! Grandma called to see if I could do a shoot for Cameron's daddy for Christmas and I was more than happy to spend time with this little cutie and his beautiful mommy!

Here is Andrea's bestie, Hannah! It was actually Hannah's mom that found me and then Andrea booked later but they knew they wanted to be together!

Here are the Noe twins! So stinkin' cute and very sweet! These two were double the fun to work with and made my job so very easy!

The sweet Sarah is up next! This is from the second set of photos I did with her! Yup, she got two Senior sessions because in the second one she had her braces off so we had to capture the joy of that milestone! This photo and the one that follows are both in my top 10 favorites of all time!

And now, introducing Mr. and Mrs. Spellman! This was another laid back bride! I just love that! Notice the wedding chapel truck? It was on CMT's Trick My Truck! What a cool prop for a wedding and actually functions as a mobile wedding chapel! Very cool!

The kids in this next family were so fun and funny! I was in stitches the whole session! How adorable is the Thompson family?

The Trigg family also proved to be a fun family with two young kids who are always on the move!! It is tough for me to keep up sometimes! LOL!

And finally, here is Jordan! She was laid back and drove the golf cart very well! She lives on a golf course where we did part of her shoot! I love this one with the tree!

So now you know why I have been M.I.A. for the month of October!! Ha Ha! I am so ready for a small vacation or at least a day off where I can just sleep and eat and watch old movies in my jammies! I have other sessions that I am working on that I will share with you very soon!

The wedding was somewhere else so they had a photographer closer to the venue but I got the privileged of doing a Bridal shoot after the big day! Heck ya!! I love this last photo and NO I did not request that Dad catapult his son into the air but it made for a great photo! All I did was add a little texture to make it more epic! LOL! I think Mom almost had a heart attack!

This cute little family found me when they were searching for wedding photographers for her sister's recent wedding (yup Mr. & Mrs. Butler)! Anyway, Dad is in the Navy and was not here for the wedding but he did get to come home for a few days a week later so we set up a shoot! Now little M was less than cooperative until we started discussing the ice cream he would get as a treat following the shoot if he smiled and listened! He is so stinking cute and has tons of personality plus we have arranged a marriage between him and the Diva!! Only kidding!!

I did a wedding back in June that resulted in the Yim Family being directed my way during a recent visit to Illinois! I am always happy when satisfied customers tell their friends about me. Anyway, this family was too cute for words and so much fun to spend the evening with before they headed back to Cali! Isn't that a song? The daughter is going into 7th grade and is a gymnast! She is too cute for words and Dad was super funny telling on lookers that his photo would be on E Harmony soon and that he would gladly autograph copies of his photos soon! LOL! I love to work with fun people!!

Another Happily Ever After - Mattoon, IL Wedding Photographer

So, I can admit that I am a sucker for a good wedding and I always cry at some point even if the couple are total strangers! LOL! I am just made that way and have loved weddings since, well, Princess Diana married Prince Charles!! Now THAT was a wedding! Anyway, a couple of weeks ago I have the privileged of photographing Leslie and Jason's wedding! This was one laid back could that rolled with every bad thing that happened that day and did not let anything stop them from being anything but happy! Having said that, it was THE shortest ceremony that I have photographed! It lasted 4 minutes! No joke and then came the party!! That is just the fun sort of couple that they are!! Here are some of my favorites from the big day! Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that there was a golf cart that the couple drove away in!! How fun is that!

Yup, this guy was a cutie! Sorry, just sayin'! Anyway, he and his mom showed up at the location and he was a little apprehensive about the whole thing and just wanted it to be over but we had a wonderful time and by the end he was a pro!! Now I do have to tell you that his mom suggested the shirtless photos and I took it to the next level by adding the fountain! This guy is model material for sure and I told his mom to submit some of these to Abercrombie or any other clothing company that she could think of that markets to teens cause he's got it going on! Sorry ladies, he has a girlfriend!

And now for the model part of the shoot and one of my favorite from the day! He was such a great sport and did not mind getting a little wet!!

Well that is the latest and greatest from here for now but I am downloading pictures from a wedding this past weekend so they will be coming up shortly! I also have a shoot with a guy and his daughter from California this evening (referrals rock my world) and I am still trying to tie my teen down to get his Senior shots done (he stood me up last night)!

Meet Hayley! She goes to school with my soon-to-be Senior! They have been in drama and chorus together for a while and she is one talented girl! The location was cool and unique because it belongs to her grandparents! We had such a good time! I hope you enjoy them!

Tim was officially holding out, that is until Amanda caught his heart! Let me tell you, they are a match made in heaven! They are literally perfect for each other!!

This wedding was 100% outside and given out weather as of late, I was afraid for the worst! The heat was oppressive (heat index of 105)! My lenses fogged over when transitioning from indoors to out and yes it did rain but not until the ceremony ended! In fact, it started to rain as the were walking back up the isle! People just grabbed their chairs and headed for the tents! This couple took it all in stride and moved the reception to the pole building and continued on!

I have to give a shout out to JR, who was my right hand man! Amanda appointed him to be my people wrangler for pictures! All I had to do was tell him which group of people I needed next and viola', there they were! Every wedding needs a JR!!

OK, now to the photos!!

And with that kiss, his fate was sealed! Congrats to Tim and Amanda! You guys were tons of fun to hang out with!!

OK, so I had already been booked to photograph this lovely couples wedding but she called me to ask if I would do and engagement/family session. Of course, I said yes and that led me to a fire station and a lake to spend time getting to know this fun family! They are from my hometown but they are MUCH younger than me!! Ha! Can you guess which team they root for?

The following photos are a surprise for their dad for Father's Day! He is the fire chief in Arcola so we started out at the fire station!!

Then there is this little guy who is trying to fill grandpa's boots! Pretty big boots to fill if you ask me! He was so adorable!!

Bringing You up to Speed!

I have been a tad bit lax in my blogging lately so here is one big blog post to bring you up to speed with what has been going on behind the scenes here!! First, Baby W, we started a session and then he was not feeling well so we tried again after his nap but he was having NONE of it so we finally rescheduled for another day and finally got some results!!

Then came the final Pictures In The Park fundraiser for my friends who are going on a missions trip to Jamaica next month and I am proud to say that we raised $350 for them to go toward expenses!! Here are some shots of the two final families!

This family was so cute! Big Brother J was great with high energy and was a true joy to work with! Little Brother T, however, wanted NO part of any of it so he was one tough customer!!

Then there was this adorable family!! When dad got out of the car he said "Do you remember me?" I had to look for a moment but YES I did remember him!! We worked together more than 10 years ago at the local phone company!! He is not a fire fighter!! Wow, what a career change!

Anyway, that gets you up to speed on this end! Tonight I have an engagement/family session in my hometown!! Tomorrow I will photograph the Ordination of Jaret, whom I did fund raising for and then Monday will bring a family session! Later this week I will be doing some more Senior portraits! Let's just say that I am keeping busy!! I promise to update you more often!!

These two beauties were double the fun for this shoot! So adorable and eager to pose for me when I asked!!

Here is the whole family!! These are the seats at the ball field of Lake Land College and Dad just happened to play ball here a couple of years ago!!

We were behind the college on a weekend so there was no traffic! The kids were excited to sit in the road and pose for me!! I made sure they knew NEVER to do this under normal circumstances!! LOL!

I really like the construction of this very cool bridge! It made the perfect spot to capture these awesome kids!! Yes, I had to get down on my belly to get the shot!! LOL! It was very easy to get down but oh so hard to get back up!!

I was offered a new location to shoot at recently by the owner of the MOST beautiful piece of property I have ever seen!! 2 ponds (one with a fountain), a creek, a bridge and a cabin all surrounded by trees, flowers and green grass!! I fell in love so it was only appropriate to use it for an engagement shoot!

Kayla and Jordan were awesome to work with and so much fun!

This guy was way to cool for this shoot!! LOL!! No really, he was super funny and kept me rolling all through the shoot! The photos with his sousaphone were taken at the new Doudna Fine Arts Center at EIU and there was a black tie event going on inside so all these well dressed folk kept walking in!! We were WAY under dressed!! LOL!

Then all of sudden this really cool guy came out and he was charming and funny and quite a poser!! LOL!

Last night I scheduled my first Boudoir session last night! It happens to be for a client whose wedding I photographed not too long ago! She is wanting some classy, fun photos for her hubby who is in the service! When she emailed me I was shocked but once that passed, I thought why not? Not sure I will share, unless I get the go ahead from her and believe me it will be tame, there will be no centerfolds shot by me!! Ha!!

Baby Dedication

There is nothing better than a sweet new babe fresh from patch!! Oh yeah, love the looks, the yawns and that fresh baby smell gets me every time!! That's why I always say yes to a good baby dedication!! Here are the shots from little Will's introduction to God! This little cutie is only 5 weeks old and oh my is he adorable!! This first shot is my favorite, it is just so circle of life (Lion King)! Daddy picked out his favorite stained glass window and away we went!! Below is sleepy boy with daddy!! It is so tough to be the center of attention!!

OK, the first Senior Rep shoot is a rap!! We had a great time touring the countryside looking for cool spots to shoot! Thank goodness we were in my hubby's truck because we ended up going down a road that turned out not to be a road! This shoot was fun because it was done in her parent's Victorian home and let me tell you, it is beautiful!! This beautiful girl also has two sisters who are currently expecting! Wish I could get them all together but one lives in Indiana. I will be photographing the other sister later this spring!

This last one is my favorite from the whole shoot! I love the window, the sun and the look on her face!! I cannot wait to meet little Tanner in person!!

I love the start of wedding season!! I had the opportunity to photography a wonderful ceremony on Saturday for Natasha and Hywel (pronounced Hal) and it was a beautiful day!! The Bride was relaxed and calm, there was no bridezilla here!! LOL!!

I normally don't colorize just one portion of an image but these shoes just screamed please let me be my red self! How fun are those shoes??

I think this is my favorite shot of the day for so many reasons!! First, who doesn't LOVE a man in uniform? And second, it is just so darn touching because it reminds me of our military days! You see, Hywel is home for only a few days, he will be leaving again on Thursday to head back to Japan where he will be preparing for a deployment to Afghanistan in the near future. Please couple in your prayers as they will be separated so soon after this beautiful moment!!

Notice my new logo above? I was thinking new year, new logo.......works for me!! I am getting back to work tomorrow with my first shoot of the new year! It is full steam ahead after that and I am more than excited! March and April will be filled with Senior Reps, April and May are pictures in the park Jamaica fundraiser, graduations and the start of wedding season! Oh, and several families and babies thrown in for good measure!

I have buckled my seat belt and am ready for this ride to begin!! Check back this weekend for new photos!!

I am Not Hiding!

I know it has been a while but I have been taking a winter break due to rain, snow, ice and other icky weather that prevents me from working outside! No excuses I know!

I have also been working on some good things like a girls weekend with my 3 BFFs from High School and giving something back to the community! Back in December I donated my services and camera for Help Portrait! It was a great experience and I look forward to doing it again next year!

Right now I am working on a fundraiser with 3 folks trying to pay for their missions trip to Jamaica! No not the fun resort Jamaica! The other side of the island where folks have nothing, including shoes!! If all goes well with Portraits in the Park, these 3 folks will have their trip paid for 100% from the proceeds! Pretty cool, huh? I thought it was the least I could do since I am not able to go myself and I can't just hand them the money to go so I am doing the next best thing and giving my time and talent!

I am also getting ready for my Senior Rep sessions! I have a great line up of guys and gals from area schools who will get their Senior photos done in early spring! They get a great discount and then they get to compete for a cash prize! The Senior Rep who gets the most referrals booked will win some cold hard cash and what teen couldn't use that? Of course, my son who is one of my Reps is not eligible for the prize but he is used to that!

So now you know, I have been working on a few things and not just being lazy!! Hope you are all staying warm and dry!!

This was a referral shoot from a past client! When Mom called to book the shoot, I was excited to go to my hometown! Mom and I hit it off the minute I walked in the door! She and her husband were both awesome so it only makes sense that the girls would be awesome too! This was a fun shoot and they were up for anything!

Check out the sisterly love between these two!! When I asked if they got along well I was told no so I think all the love was for the benefit of the camera!! I think they really do love each other though neither would admit it!! Ha!

The next few shots were taken at their gorgeous old home in Arcola! I love everything about this house and always have!! I grew up in Arcola!

How much fun can you have photographing a wedding? Well, let me tell you that it is possible to have so much fun that you forget you are working! This is Kasey and Heath, they are a cute young couple from our church who loved my work and hired me to be part of the fun! There were a few setbacks in getting them down the isle, like Heath completing Naval Basic training! Yup, that was a small hurdle but one that they plowed through like champs!! Congrats guys, you made it!! May you always be blessed by your union and remember my advice: Always kiss each other goodnight!!

This girl was crazy fun the first time so we decided to do a second shoot. We went to some new locations and tried some textures on for size. This girl was up for anything, including climbing the side of hill to sit on a fallen tree! We both lost our footing a couple of times! If it had not been so cold, she might have even gone it the water in her dress! I think she is a perfect candidate for a "trash the dress" session in the near future! OK, maybe when it gets warm again in say 7 months!!

Wow, this was one amazing wedding! I was nervous and excited to be able to share the day with Chet, Amanda and their family! The weather was an amazing 68 degrees with the most gorgeous clouds in the sky! The reception was held on the campus of Eastern Illinois University which has some of the most amazing locations for photos!

Amanda and Chet both looked amazing and were very relaxed throughout the whole process and were very easy to photograph! Chet was the most fun to work with and did not question anything that Amanda or I asked him to do!
Out of over 700 photographs, it was hard to pick my favorites to showcase but for the sake of space I needed to narrow it down! Click on each set of photos to make them larger so you can see every little detail!

This lovely couple was a referral from Amanda! Thanks for the vote of confidence! Stesha booked me for their September wedding and then called later to book an engagement session! Nathan was a little reluctant at the start of the shoot but warmed up as we went along!
Are they just the cutest couple? I think they look so sweet together! I can't wait for the wedding!

Our goal here was to go up on the old railroad bridge that you see in the background but unfortunately the path was covered in weeds and poison ivy and oak all of which will send me to the hospital in a hurry! We were lucky enough to get the bridge in some of the shots which was perfect!
This is not the best photo of the bunch but it is one of my favorites because of the look on her face! She is a bundle of energy and so fun to be around! The wedding and reception should be tons of fun!

Sorry that I haven't put anything new here for a while but I have been working on a project, my very first photo book! I decided to do a bookstore quality book that I could use to market my business! It will be a collection of some of my favorite photographs that I have taken in the last year! Some are personal and some are clients while others are cars and nature so it will be a true representation of my work and my passion! The title is "Life Looks Better Through The Lens" and will be available for purchase in the near future, I promise I will let you know when and where!

So I have been busy working on the layout and pulling all my favorite photos from the achieves to put them in the book! I am also working and the journaling that will accompany the photos!! The front cover will be the little diva and the back cover will be the moody teen because two of my all time favorite photos are of them (not just because they are my kids)! Yup, the photo above is the cover shot! Excitement all the way I tell you!

Upcoming shoots include some senior photos, a baby dedication and a wedding re dedication ceremony! So I will have some new things to share by next week!

Wow, what an exhausting day yesterday was! A car shoot and a prom shoot all in one day makes for a very tired but happy photographer! I will post the car photos later because I thought the prom photos turned out great! This is my son with his TWO dates! The young lady in the balck and white dress has a boyfriend but he could not make it so my son had two dates! It made for some fun photos but I am ready for a break! Ha! Busy Weekend with No Sleep!

Wedding season is in full swing and the bookings are coming in left and right not to mention engagement and event sessions! I am sooooo happy to be busy but wondering when I will have time to sleep let alone do anything else! Ha!

This weekend is very packed starting at 9 AM tomorrow with a car and cycle show that I will be photographing! I must also pick up the wrist corsage for my son's date for prom and then help him get ready. After the two couples have arrived we will be doing a location shoot with them for prom pics! Did you expect anything less from a photographer?? Ha Ha! One girls date may not be able to come so my son may have two dates and he is only a sophomore! I think that is sooo funny!

Anyway, Sunday I will be singing at Peterson Park here in Mattoon from 3-5 pm. If you are in the area please stop by for some great music from lots of great artists! I will be posting lots of pictures of all these events as soon as I can so come on back to see my work!

Life is good on the photography front! I booked two more weddings today with a possible two or three more in the pipeline! I also got my first corporate gig today, thanks to my husband.

I have to give him some credit because it is because of him that I have the opportunity! Here is how it went down: hubby is going to be photographed for some brochure and catalog work for Lakeland College (didn't know I married a male model, huh?) and he mentioned to the person organizing the shoot that I am a photographer and she said she would pay me to do the shoot! Pretty cool! By the way, he says he got the gig because he is H-A-W-T, hot!! Giggle, snort!!

Anyway just wanted to keep you all up to speed on my ever changing calender of events!

Amanda & Chet

I showed you all a sneak peak of the shoot with Chet & Amanda and now I am ready, after many hours of editing, to share the shoot with you! Yeah! I am always excited when I finish and send them to the printer! I print some first to make sure the color is good before I give them to the client!! It is just a matter of checks and balances with me that makes good business sense!

Now I get to tell you about the shoot itself!! They were so much fun to work with, laughing and cutting up which made it fun and easy because the smiles were natural and not forced! We joked around a lot and got to know Chet better since I have known Amanda since she was 10. This gave me more insight into his style so I could plan out some cool shots (sports oriented) for their wedding!!

The funniest thing we saw was a small animal trap with a note on it that read, "please do not let the cat out because I feed it every night"! Kind of struck me as funny! You wouldn't need to lock it in if you fed it every night because it would come back on it's own, I would think! We got a good laugh out of it considering the Chinese restaurant is right there!

I know that I am worse than a kid and I will not be able to sleep tonight in anticipation of my first shoot of the spring season!! I have prepared a shoot list and charged all my batteries and now I just have to wait which is the hardest part for me!!

This photo is from one of my last outdoor shoots last year!! It was taken the evening before Thanksgiving! This is Mark and his wife Jackie and they were home visiting for the holidays! He is a Marine and I cannot remember where he is stationed! I cannot wait to share some new stuff with you all!

Have I told you that my photography is not just for people! I will photograph your animals too! By themselves or with the rest of the family! Pets are an integral part of family life these days that we need to include them too!

Just look at the love in those eyes! How could you resist?

One thing I hear lots of people say is that they are sorry they do not have more photos of a beloved pet who has passed. I know we feel this way about the pets that we have lost over the years! I even wish there were photos of pets that were in the house when I was a baby! I hear talk of them but have no memories of them at all!

Taking Inventory

This weekend will be spent taking inventory of my gear and taking pics of it all for insurance purposes! I have about $5000 in this little venture so far with more on my wish list! I wish I could have it all now but I can't so it will all come in good time!

I am really excited by spring and summer for a couple of reasons: #1 NICE weather and #2 time to shoot more photos in the great outdoors! Coming up in a couple of weeks I will be doing engagement photos for Chet and Amanda! He is a guys guy and she is a former beauty queen, whom I have known since she was, oh, ten or so! I have even been dreaming about this shoot and the good news is that I have remembered all the really cool ideas that I have for them! I will also be shooting their wedding in July! I cannot wait to share these beautiful people with you all!

I am often asked how I stumbled into photography and I tell them it was not so much a stumble as a rediscovery! When my daughter was born I realized as I was taking pictures of her, that I had forgotten all about my passion for photography due to life and other jobs that demanded my time. Now, as a stay at home mom, I am able to persue my dream and share it all with you in the process! Join me on this journey as I shoot people in real photojournalistic style! My photography is created with you in mind, to capture the true you and not the get dressed up once a year you that people think they need to see in a professional photo!
